Hudson View Gardens,
183rd Street and Pinehurst Avenue,
Attention Mrs. H. Payne Whitney
Dear Mrs. Whitney;-
After several weeks of negotiations with influential newspapers outside of New York I have perfected a combination publicity and advertising plan that will afford the New York Art Galleries the opportunity to reach the art loving public of Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, St. Louis, Boston and Philadelphia.
Beginning at once with the Detroit Free Press, Cincinnati Enquirer, Cleveland News, Pittsburgh Post Gazette and Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago papers to be decided upon in a few days, I will prepare the details of the advertising campaign which offers a combined circulation of about two million at a minimum of cost. This advertising column will appear under the heading "In the New York Art Galleries".
Quite separate from the advertising column but on the same page will be a review of the New York Art Galleries written by Mr. Forbes Watson whom we all know to be one of the most brilliant art critics in New York.
I am writing on my old letterhead which in a way explains the reason for my being able to consummate a proposition of this kind.
As "special Florida representative" of some of the largest papers in the country I established very cordial associations with both the editorial and business departments of these newspapers so when this plan was envisioned -- the building up of contacts between New York galleries and picture buyers outside of New York -- it was merely a matter of selecting from the old combination a group of those papers best suited to the art interests.
The two outstanding accomplishments of the plan are the securing of Mr. Forbes Watson as art critic for the weekly reviews and the spirit of fine cooperation we have secured from these great papers all over the country.
