Description--Front	Pictured is an aerial view of bustling New York City harbor. Various boats and ships ply the harbor in the foreground and midground, and the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are visible in the background. Prominently featured is the famous sidewheeler, the General Slocum, which caught fire in 1904. [This was widely termed the biggest disaster to be visited upon New York City until 2001.] Other vessels include a tugboat towing a barge, a distant steamship and several other ships and sailboats. In the foreground is Fort Clinton Monument, a park, and several busy approaches to the harbor with numerous people and horse-drawn carriages. The card is annotated with several stars and handwritten notes indicating various landmarks: (S. liberty X, old castle garden now aquarium X, and -fireboat X) A star is drawn next to General Slocum as an indicator that this is the point of interest to which the main message refers. Written message on face of card: (This Steamer * is the General Slocum. Remember on the 15 of June 1904 so many lives were lost on it as it took fire. the whole city morned [sic] then + still hold memorial day each year. the city erected a monument in Luthern cemetry [sic] for the dear lost ones.
