Description--Front
Sepia
postcard
of a
canal
in
Durhamville
,
N.Y
.
Two
connected
barges
piled
high
with
lumber
are
heading
up
the
canal
; a
sign
on the
stern
announces
that the
barge
is
the "
Charlie
S
Floy
". There are
decorative
swirls
on
both
sides
of the
name
. A
smaller
sign
underneath
lists
the
name
of the
town
"
Caughenoy
",
flanked
by
swirls
. In a
section
next
to the
lower
left
swirl
can
be
seen
the
words
"
Ira
M
.
Rose
". At the
back
of the
boat
is
a
small
cabin
,
dwarfed
by the
lumber
in
front
and the
hoisting
machinery
behind
it
. The
elegantly
bent
crane
has been
secured
to the
right
. On the
left
side
of the
canal
five
people
can
be
discerned
half
way
up
the
tow
path
:
three
are
walking
abreast
,
one
is
standing
, and
one
is
crouching
,
facing
the
water
.
-
The
right
side
of the
canal
is
flanked
by a
street
that
T-bones
away
from the
canal
,
some
trees
,
some
open
land
,
utility
poles
, a
small
residential
house
in the
forefront
(partly
obscured
by
trees
and by what
appears
to be a
bed
sheet
on a
clothes
line)
and a
large
farm
house
further
down
the
road
with an
enormous
roof
. The
photographer
took
the
picture
standing
on a
stone
ledge
which
reverts
to a
brush-covered
slope
a
few
feet
further
away
.
-
The
photograph
only
fills
approximately
4/5th
of the
card
; there
is
an
unexposed
area
on the
right
side
of the
card
where
the
photograph
is
cut
off
.
